Misjka is the 8+ book that I wrote, based on some true stories by Anoush Elman. Earlier we worked together on the young adult novel The boy who found happiness (Dutch: De gelukvinder).

Misjka is about Roya, who asks her parents for a pet, now that her family finally got a permit to stay in The Netherlands after having fled from Afghanistan. Roya starts telling the little rabbit they buy (Misjka) about the trip they made as refugees. But then, one morning, Misjka disappears...

The warm illustrations in full colour are by Annet Schaap.

• In addition to the awards the book received for the text, Annet Schaap was also awarded for the illustrations. She received the Dutch Silver Brush 2023.
